Ranch Ruckus - Late Spring 2011

With your help, we are preserving history for our future generations by doing such things as:
Renovating the Parlor, that included removing a bee hive from the chimney, donating stored music, renovating the room, and adding an electric fireplace (first "fire" since the 1892 earthquake).
Submitting the Foreman's Cottage Final Restoration Plans to the County and State for approval. It is so exciting to be close to the actual physical restoration!
Cleaning out the Big Barn (untouched for over 70 years) enabled us to look at its many potential uses.
Many treasures were found, or rediscovered, such as old fruit boxes, an 1800s harrow, hand hewn tools, nails and fasteners, varying harness parts, wagon wheels, buggy canopies, and WJ Pleasants' buggy.
~Step back now, in time, to horse and buggy days: Going to town in the buggy-which is still in the barn!-- with her mother and father, Ethel's mom, Ruth, as a little girl, would curl up on the floor of the buggy, wrap up in a warm blanket and hold a warm baked potato to keep her hands warm. Buggies only had "air conditioning", so to speak.
We also work to provide a setting for quiet reflection and spiritual renewal.
New log benches made of fallen trees from the ranch property have been designed and constructed by ranch foreman, John Knowles, and then placed overlooking the creek where one can watch and listen to all of God's beautiful creation. Fallen trees have been removed from the creek area to provide a peaceful and natural creek flow and to allow paths to be created and used by nature.
