There are many projects listed in our 5,10, and 15 year plans.  Successful completion of these goals depends not only on financial support, but people working together to accomplish the various tasks that lay ahead.  These tasks range from the very detailed and intricate to brut force labor.
Conservation Practice: To help stabilize a bank, Rick Poore of Streamwise, an aqua geomophologist, operates a excavator, placing rocks strategically to the eroding bank.

Boy Scout Troop #975: From Friday evening, May 18 through Sunday, May 20th, boy scouts from #975 of Vacaville came for a 2 night campout where several scouts earned their cooking badge. As a community service to the Joyful Ranch Foundation, an orchard that had just been grafted was cleared of branches cut in that process. Among many activities, they also enjoyed a game of sticks and eagles.

Walnut Grafting Project: As a good agricultural practice, several trees were grafted, using a Serr variety walnut That was grafted onto either a Black Walnut base or a Paradox base. After all but one branch removed from the tree, the graft is performed. As the graft takes, the long branch is removed.

Cellar Clean-out: The cellar of the main ranch house has been used for many years to store home canned foods. The many cupboards were filled with Mason jars containing fruit and vegetables "put-up" by the family cook and Ethel's mother. Some of these old jars were estimated to be over 40 years old.  Volunteers pitched in to clean out hundreds of old jars and tidy up the cellar.  The work continues.

Landscaping the yards: The main ranch house is surrounded by beautiful gardens. Volunteers work tirelessly to maintain the landscaping. On this afternoon the Pyracanthia bushes were removed to make room for new verities of plants.

Interior Painting: As time and resources permit, the interior of the main ranch house is being painted. This is a very large and expensive project that is ongoing.  Because of the special skills required to reach the ceiling, the interior stairwell is being repainted by professional painters.
